CALL TO WORSHIP
(Tune: #355- ‘From Every Stormy Wind That Blows’)
Words by Psalm 112 by Isaac Watts

T |
hrice happy man who fears the Lord,
Loves His commands, and trusts His Word;
Honor and peace his days attend,
And blessings to his seed descend.
Compassion dwells upon his mind,
To works of mercy still inclined;
He lends the poor some present aid,
Or gives them, not to be repaid.
When times grow dark, and tidings spread
That fill his neighbors round with dread,
His heart is armed against the fear,
For God with all his power is there.
His soul, well fixed upon the Lord,
Draws heav’nly courage from His Word;
Amidst the darkness light shall rise,
To cheer his heart and bless his eyes.
He hath dispersed his alms abroad;
His works are still before his God;
His name on earth shall long remain,
While envious sinners fret in vain.
FULL REMISSION OF SIN
“Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin”.
Heb 10:18

f Christ’s offering in death did not get the job of remission of sins done, there is no more offering. We are doomed! If His blood sacrifice for the sins of His sheep did not save them, or keep them and bring them to glory, then there is nothing else to offer. Tears won’t do it and promises to do better won’t do it. There’s not enough works of all men and women born as sons of Adam, put together to do it! It’s just His blood! And that is enough, even more than enough. How do we know? Hebrews 10:19- “Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS.”

THE SOLE OBJECT OF FAITH
“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.” Gal. 3:16.

hat no one is declared just before God by any personal obedience is clear from Scripture. The law requires perfect and sinless obedience, and condemns as guilty even the slightest disobedience, James 2:10. The sole ground of justification before God is declared to be BY THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST. Notice it does not say ‘by faith IN Jesus Christ,’ but by ‘THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST.’ It is THE FAITH once delivered unto the saints (all whom God has justified through the death of His Son), Jude 3. It is THE FAITH which the Spirit of God causes sinners to believe and rest in, not looking to their believing as the ground of their justification, but TO THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST(The Gospel of His obedience unto death as God’s righteousness, Romans 5:19). It is precious faith revealed through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ, (2 Peter 1:1). It is to this righteousness established by the Lord Jesus in His death, and approved and imputed to the account of every one of God’s elect by the Father, Romans 8:32-34, that the regenerated sinner looks for salvation. We who believe look outside ourselves to the Lord Jesus as the sole object of faith. If you have the faith of God’s elect, you rest your soul’s hope only upon Christ the Crucified One, and desire to be found in Him in life, death, and at the judgment to come.

A LIVELY HOPE
|

esus was laid in the grave in death’s cold embrace, the same as His people, but with this difference. We sleep to rise no more until the resurrection morn, but our victorious and conquering Head burst the barriers of the tomb on the third morning. He PUT AWAY SIN, endured the curse, SATISFIED LAW and JUSTICE, vanquished death and hell, brought life and immortality to light, and rose triumphant over death, hell, and the grave. Our Jesus is seen in His immortal triumphs as conquering all our foes.
He is the spiritual Samson, who has overcome all the enemies of His church and people. It is a blessed sight to see our risen and exalted Lord! He became the first-fruits of them that slept. As sure as Christ our covenant head arose from the dead in victory over all His enemies: so sure shall every elect vessel of mercy not only be raised from a death of sin and iniquity to live a life of faith upon the Lord, but when He comes the second time in His triumphant glory, all the members of His mystical body shall rise up fashioned like unto His glorious body, and live and reign with Him in blessedness for evermore. The resurrection of Christ is not only a “lively hope” to our souls, but it is “a good hope through grace,” which we would not give up for a thousand worlds.
JOHN KERSHAW (1792-1870)
THE SHEDDING OF CHRIST’S BLOOD
“For by one man’s obedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous,” Romans 5:19.

he Gospel speaks of representation. It is not just Christ’s obedient life, but his obedience unto death, Hebrews 9:22, “…without shedding of blood is no remission.” “But this man after he had offered ONE sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God,” Hebrews 10:12.
The priests of the Old Testament never sat down because their work was never finished. All those sacrifices were nothing but a picture of the One true sacrifice who would come and lay down his life as a sin payment to God, to enable God to be a just God and the Savior of sinners. The biblical word speaks of DEATH. It speaks of blood being poured out unto death. Our Lord Jesus Christ came into this world as the representative of all that the Father gave to the Son before the world began, and lived and died in their place. He suffered under the infinite wrath of God. He came as our Passover Lamb and shed His blood, and God says, ‘When I see the BLOOD I will pass over you.” But the blood of Jesus does not just allow God to pass over sinners. It enables Him, a holy and righteous God, to justify them by Christ’s shed blood. Romans 5:9, “Much more then, being now justified BY HIS BLOOD; we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”
Do you wonder, “Was Christ sacrificed for me?” Are you a sinner? Have you been brought to see yourself as a hopeless and helpless sinner, having no righteousness of your own? Then, cry out as Peter did, “Lord, save me lest I perish!” MIKE CARTER
OUR FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST

he high priest under the law had two offices to execute. He had to offer sacrifice for the people, and to offer prayer and intercession for them. Upon earth Jesus fulfilled the first. In heaven He fulfills the second, as there making by virtue of His presence, continual intercession for us. J.C. PHILPOT 1893
