CALL TO WORSHIP
Tune: #143- ‘Rejoice the Lord is King’
Words by Robert Allan Scott, 1839 based on Psalm 115
All glory be to Thee,
Who dwellest high in heav’n
Not to a feeble child of clay
Be worship given:
Thy hand the mightiest can o’erthrow,
And dash their every idol low.
All glory, Lord, be Thine,
Our fortress and our shield:
Whose arm upholds Thine Israel,
And arms for the field:
In Thee Thy faithful people trust,
And lay the proudest in the dust.
Blest by Thy favor Lord,
No foe can work us ill:
Supported by Thy gracious Word,
Thou art present still;
And e’en in death and in the grave
Shall own Thy power to help and save.
THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS
“This is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS,” Jeremiah 23:6

dam fell, and he died spiritually. The separation from God both for him and his posterity was immediate and irreversible by man, Romans. 5:12. Any of us born since then are born sinners, spiritually dead, depraved, separated from God, and having no righteousness in ourselves. Nonetheless, the Lord gave Adam and Eve a lesson on how He could be just and justify sinners. They endeavored to cover their nakedness with fig leaves (a type of works religion). The Lord removed the false covering, and covered them with the skins of innocent animals, which He slew in their place (a type of Christ and His blood sacrifice and righteousness), Gen. 3:21. That is why Jeremiah spoke of Him as THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS. Any hope of being declared righteous before God must be by His obedience unto death ALONE, Romans 5:19. It is by the death of the Lord Jesus ALONE that sin was put away for God’s children and they have been ONCE FOR ALL declared righteous (justified) before Him, Heb. 10:10. Is HE your ONLY righteousness? KEN WIMER
THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH

hat’s the difference between a sinner who is born again, and one who is not? The Spirit of Truth, John 14:17. Even the elect of God, before God gives them His Spirit, resemble the children of wrath in their manner and doctrine, because they are born in ignorance, darkness, and rebellion until the Spirit gives them life, Ephesians 4:18. The reality for all is, “Ye must be born again (born from above),” John 3:7. Christ our Lord said that the Spirit of Truth would be at work in the world, drawing to Him those whom He redeemed by His death, John 14:16. He is called the Spirit of Truth, because His one work is to REVEAL Christ who is THE TRUTH, John 16:13. It is by His Spirit that Christ dwells in His elect, giving them faith and causing them to rest in Him who shed His blood for them, once for all- putting away their sin, having justified them forever before God the Father by His death, Ephesians 1:13, 14. CHRIST GLORIFIED

t is Christ alive in glory that I see, not Christ down here (sweet as that was); Christ at the right hand of God. Yet though that glory is in the heavens, I can steadfastly behold it. All that glory, and He is in the midst of the glory and majesty of the throne of God itself, does not affright me, because this wonderful truth comes in, that that glory of God is in the face of a man who has put away my sins, and who is there in proof of it. (Heb. 1: 3.) I should have been afraid to hear His voice, and have said, with the children of Israel (Ex. 20: 19), 'Let not God speak with me,' or, like Adam, with a guilty conscience, have sought to hide myself away (Gen. 2: 8); but I do not say so now; no, let me hear His voice. I cannot see the glory of Christ now, without knowing that I am saved. How comes He there? He is a man who has been down here mixing with publicans and sinners, the friend of such, choosing such as His companions. He is a man who has borne the wrath of God on account of sin; He is a man who has borne my sins in His own body on the tree (I speak the language of faith); He is there, as having been down here amidst the circumstances, and under the imputation of sin; and yet it is in His face I see the glory of God. I see Him there, consequent upon the putting away of my sin, because He has accomplished my redemption. I could not see Christ in the glory, if there was one spot or stain of sin not put away. The more I see of the glory, the more I see the perfectness of the work that Christ has wrought, and of the righteousness wherein I am accepted; every ray of that glory is seen, in the face of One who has confessed my sins as His own, and died for them on the cross; of One who has glorified God in the earth, and finished the work that the Father had given Him to do. The glory that I see is the glory of redemption, Having glorified Gad about the sin - "I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do" - God has glorified Him with Himself there. A GOD OF MERCY AND GRACE
|
I |
am surely the most unworthy of love from God, of any that ever found grace in His sight. Hell, the hottest hell, is my desert! Oh, what a sinner am I! The sin of my nature, that deluge of filth and guilt which overspread all my parts and powers as soon as quickened in the womb, and in which I was born—together with my actual sins, my going astray from the womb, when I did nothing else but sin—until mighty grace laid hold of me! These sins of mine I saw, when the Lord opened my eyes, did deserve the damnation of hell—and I wondered at the infinite forbearance of God in allowing me to live so long out of hell, when I was such fit fuel for everlasting burnings! And I could have justified Him if He had sent me down to the pit the next moment.
But oh, behold, I was a vessel of mercy; and therefore the Lord made known unto me the riches of His glory, not only in sparing, but in pardoning mercy also. He not only spared me from hell, but forever delivered me from going down to the pit by the ransom which He had found—by His own Son, to bear my sin, to be made a curse, and to die for me! By this mighty ransom—this infinite price of the life of the Son of God laid down for my redemption, did the God of all grace let me go free. And oh, the riches, the exceeding riches of His grace, which He then displayed, in the forgiveness of all my sins through the Lamb's blood! Where sin had abounded grace did much more abound!
Oh, how freely did my heavenly Father receive me, a poor prodigal, when under His own drawings I came to Him by Jesus Christ! He did not upbraid me with my vile transgressions, or deal with me in wrath according to my sins—but graciously opened His arms and let me into His bosom—His heart's love—no more to be separated from His love, nor to fall out of love's arms forever! No! Having loved me with an everlasting love, and thus manifested His love through the slain Lamb, He resolved to love me forever—that He would never cast me off, nor cast me out of His free love for all that I had done. Oh, astonishing! That abundant pardon which my heavenly Father then granted, and I received, carried in the bosom of it not only the forgiveness of my past and present sins, but of my future sins also—of all my transgressions, even to my life's end. He forgave me all trespasses—resolved to be merciful to my unrighteousness and to remember my sins no more. (Letters of Ann Dutton)
