CALL TO WORSHIP

(Tune: ‘Doxology’)

J

esus, the glorious Head of grace,

Knows every saint’s peculiar case;

What sorrows by their souls are borne!

And how for sin they daily mourn.

He knows how deep their groanings are,

And what their secret sighs declare;

And, for their comfort, has expressed

That all such mourning souls are blessed.

They’re blessed on earth, for ‘tis by grace

They see and know their mournful case;

Blessed mourners! They shall shortly rise

To endless comfort in the skies.

There all their mourning days shall cease,

And they be filled with joy and peace;

Comforts eternal they shall prove,

And dwell for ever in His love.

Dear Lord, may I a mourner be,

Over my sins and after Thee;

And when my mourning days are o’re,

Enjoy Thy comforts evermore.

BOTH MADE ONE

“For He is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us,”   Ephesians 2:14

T

he idea that national Israel still holds a favored son status in God’s purpose of salvation runs contrary to the clear testimony of Scripture.  The very core message of God’s Word is that God has preserved Israel in His covenant mercies in order to bring His Son Jesus Christ from her midst to accomplish salvation for His True Israel (elect sinners from every nation)-Romans 9:4-8.  That being done, Christ has by His ONE SACRIFICE not only put away all the sin of His people forever (Jew and Gentile), having justified us by His shed blood and imputed righteousness, but also forever removed any distinction between us as regards race and privilege- Galatians 3:28.

PARTAKING OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

I

t is the Lord’s table.  HE is the honored host, and HIS people are HIS invited guests. HE gave it as an ordinance to HIS Church, whereby the members of HIS body remember HIM in HIS death, burial, and resurrection until HE returns, I Cor. 11:23, 24.

     The unleavened bread is a symbol of Christ’s perfect, sinless body. It is not actually the body of our Lord, nor does it become so at any time.  The Lord Jesus is present at the table, by His Spirit, revealed in the hearts of His chosen, redeemed, justified and called out people.  The bread is a memorial of Christ’s body that was crushed and bruised by God the Father, on behalf of the Church, and baked in the fire of God’s judgment for the sin of His people-Isaiah 53:10.

     The wine is a symbol of Christ’s blood that He shed.  It is not the actual blood of the Lord Jesus, but, represents the death that He died on our behalf.  Our Lord called it “the new testament in my blood,” showing that by His one death, He ratified and completely fulfilled the old covenant which was that of the blood of animals only, Exodus 24:8.  Wine was often used for medicinal purposes in Scripture and is an appropriate symbol of what the death of Christ accomplished for the Redeemed.  By His one offering, they have been sanctified forever!

Heb 10:10  By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Heb 10:14  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

     The Lord’s Table is only for the Church.  Christ’s death is not a general atonement (covering) for sin.  He died for the Church, made up of elect sinners from every tribe, nation, and tongue-Acts 20:28. Here are four biblical criteria essential to partaking of the Lord’s Table.

·                                                       You must be redeemed by Christ, Ephesians 1:7

·                                                       Regenerated by the Holy Spirit, John 3:3,8;

·                                                       Immersed in water in submission by faith to God’s one true righteousness imputed in Christ’s death- Acts 2:41;

·                                                       Walking in fellowship with the Lord and His people, I Cor. 5:7, 8, 11.

“But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup,” I Corinthians 11:28.

GOD’S PURPOSE FULFILLED

G

od purposed the marriage and death of Naomi’s sons and husband as His means of bringing Ruth to see her salvation as the purpose of God, perfected in Christ. Ruth 2:2-3 say’s “her hap was to light in Boaz’s field.” “Hap” is from the root word “kaw-raw” which means “brought.” It was no accident God brought her to this place.  The Preacher wrote this in Ecclesiastes 3:1; “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens.”

                                Is not this God’s design in every elect sinner? Where are God’s elect when He finds them? Are they not in idolatry in Moab also? Where is Moab? Moab means “illegitimate son of my father.” The Moabites were descendents of Lot’s son, Moab, born to Lot’s eldest daughter. It is the realm of false religion. Were we not in false religion and completely happy to be there? Read Ephesians 2:12. “That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.” And we didn’t even know it. Jesus told the woman at the well; “you worship, you know not what.” (John 4) This ignorance, too, was in the purpose of God.  But just like Ruth, God cannot leave His elect among the ignorant because He gave them to Christ in the everlasting covenant of grace, and He was appointed by God the Father to come in time to satisfy all the conditions for their salvation in His obedience unto death.

THE ADVERSARY OF THE SOUL

“One of the most successful arts of the adversary of souls is to mingle fable with truth;  and when he cannot overthrow the truth by direct opposition, he will endeavor to neutralize it by mingling with it much that is false and frivolous.”                                               COPIED
