CALL TO WORSHIP

 (Tune: #238- ‘Amazing Grace’)

T

hou dear Redeemer, dying Lamb,

We love to hear of Thee;

No music’s like Thy charming name

Nor half so sweet can be.

O let us ever hear Thy voice;

In mercy to us speak;

And in our Priest we will rejoice,

Thou great Melchisedec.

Our Jesus shall be still our theme,

While in this world we stay;

We’ll sing our Jesus’ lovely name,

When all things else decay.

When we appear in yonder cloud

With all Thy favored throng,

Then will we sing more sweet, more loud,

And Christ shall be our song.

THE JUST FOR THE UNJUST

G

od caused the (sinless) Christ to become sin.  He caused Him to become what He was not, NOT by imparting sin to Him, or infusing sin in Him, BUT by imputation.  Christ bore the imputed sins of His elect as the sacrificial lamb bore the sins of Israel under the Old Covenant.  He died "the JUST for the unjust".  (I Pet 3:18).   He "through the eternal spirit offered himself WITHOUT SPOT to God". (Heb 9: 14).

WONDER OF WONDERS

B

ehold here a sacred riddle or paradox--"God was manifest in the flesh." That man should be made in God's image, was a wonder--but that God should be made in man's image, is a greater wonder!That the Ancient of Days--should be born;  that He who thunders in the heavens--should cry in the cradle; that He who rules the stars--should suck the breast; that Christ should be made of a woman--and of that woman which He Himself made; that the mother should be younger than the child she bore; this is the most astonishing miracle! "God was manifest in the flesh" is a mystery we shall never fully understand until we come to heaven; when our light shall be clear, as well as our love perfect.” He humbled Himself and became obedient to death--even death on a cross!" Philippians 2:8                                                                                         COPIED

THE HOLY SCRIPTURES

“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.’

2 Timothy 3:15

T

imothy's mother, being a Jewess, would have trained him up early in the knowledge of the scriptures. By the revelation of  God’s Spirit, he was enabled by God’s grace, to not only understand them, but see in them the very person and glory of Christ, and was drawn to Him in submission to that righteous obedience that Christ worked out at the cross on his behalf.  From there, God continued to bless and teach him that the Scripture is ALL about Him as God’s Son, the Savior, and Sinless Substitute.  But, why does Paul refer to God’s Word as ‘holy scriptures?’

First, it is to distinguish them from all other men’s writings and commentaries. Only the writings (scriptures) in their original form are without error, pure, unblemished, and therefore HOLY- Psalm 119:140 (pure as gold that has been refined and found pure).

Second, because the author of them is the HOLY Spirit of God designed to reveal the HOLY character of God and how He is the just justifier of those that Christ has redeemed.  Christ died, the JUST for the unjust.  Beware of any doctrine that makes Christ sinful, with a corrupt nature, in the name of Substitution. It is contrary to the very nature of holiness, as is any doctrine that makes the sinner holy by any other way than that imputed by God in Christ’s obedience unto death, Galatians 2:16-18.

Third, the subject of the scriptures is HOLY, both in the Law and the Gospel.  That is why they condemn sin and self-righteousness in any shape, form or manner (the Law), but also reveal the HOLY and just way that God has dealt with sin, and declared sinners righteous exclusively in the death of His Son- (the Gospel)! Romans 3:19-25.

Fourth, they command obedience and submission to God’s righteousness imputed in Christ, whereby all whom He saved by His obedience unto death at the cross have been once for all declared HOLY, and therefore saints, not in themselves, but Him! Romans 10:3, 4, 1 Corinthians 1:2.

Bless the holy God for the Holy Scriptures that He has inspired, kept, and continues to reveal, by His Holy Spirit, to His elect whom He has declared holy by the imputed righteousness of His Son.  It’s ALL about His holiness!

THE MESSAGE OF THE TRUE GOSPEL

P

aul was never one to mince words and sets forth in no uncertain terms that the LORD JESUS CHRIST is the SAVIOR of sinners.  He never indicates that the LORD is trying to save anybody, hoping someone will be saved, or waiting on anyone to let HIM into their heart.  HE is that ONE who has purchased eternal redemption for HIS elect (see Heb,9:12), saved HIS own to the uttermost (see Heb.7:25), washed them in HIS own blood (see Rev.1:5); justified them by HIS grace (see Rom.3:24), sanctified them by the offering of HIMSELF ( see Heb.10:10); imputed HIS righteousness to them and their sin to HIMSELF (see Rom.5:17-19), holds them in the palm of HIS mighty hand that they shall never perish (see II Tim.4:18), ever lives to make intercession for them (see Heb.9:24), upholds all things by the working of HIS mighty power (see Heb.1:3) and will receive HIS elect unto HIMSELF to inhabit that place which HE has prepared for them without the aid of man in any fashion (see Rev.22:3-5)

The message of the true gospel is not a plan or a formula which if men will cooperate with then they will receive blessings in this life or that to come.  Rather the true gospel is a magnification of the glory of the blessed GOD. It is a plain message which informs those whom GOD is pleased to enable to hear, that JESUS CHRIST is the SAVIOR of sinners.  It is not a message about what HE is trying to do or hopes to do but is a declaration of what HE has already accomplished in the behalf of those who are powerless to save themselves.  The true gospel is a proclamation that JESUS CHRIST has completely satisfied the demands of the law which rightly condemns those who have broken its precepts.  It is a plain decree, (designed for those who have been awakened by HIS SPIRIT to flee from the wrath to come,) that HE has removed all grounds of condemnation for HIS people and has imputed HIS righteousness to their account.   It is an exhortation impelling those who have been given faith to believe its precepts and cast themselves at HIS feet for mercy.  It is a sweet balm to them which heals their diseases and calms their troubled conscience.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  MIKE MCINNIS- O’BRIEN, FL
