amb of God, Thy power make known;
Sweetly draw and we will run;
Make our love to Thee and Thine
Like the sun at noon-day shine (Repeat)
As the purchase of Thy blood,
May we seek each other’s good;
And be it our great concern,
Thee to view, of Thee to learn. (Repeat)
Flesh of flesh, and bone of bone,
With the King of glory one;
Of one body each a part,
Jesus, make us one in heart. (Repeat)
King of kings, enthroned above,
Come and shed abroad Thy love;
Fill us with Thy marvelous grace,
Make us see Thy glorious face (Repeat)
SWEET CONSOLATION

what cause of holy wonder I saw in God’s being a just God, and yet a Savior. That holy law that had been my terror for months, which had cursed me for every thought, word and deed, I now saw completely honored and righteously fulfilled in Christ.
And how precious were these words, “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth,” Romans 10:4. While another text came upon the back of it with so much power, sweetness, majesty and glory, that it overwhelmed me with adoration , praise and thanksgiving: ‘Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us; for it is written, cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree,’ Galatians 3:16.
I saw, and believed, and felt that Christ had stood in my law place and stead; and that all the wrath and damnation which I had deserved at the hands of a just God had been laid upon Jesus. I saw that He had stood as my Surety and Bondsman, had put away all my sins, and magnified the law, and made it honorable in so holy a way, that there could be no condemnation either from heaven, earth or hell.

A SECURITY OR A SURETY?
“By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament,”

he Reformers often refer to the death of Christ as an atonement, and wrote of Him as having ‘secured’ salvation for His Church. But is such language biblical?
First, the notion of Christ’s death as atonement does not adequately define what He accomplished. The word ‘atonement,’ means a covering, and is used throughout the Old Testament with reference to the blood sacrifices of animals. In the Old Testament economy, it is right to refer to those sacrifices as ‘atonement’ because they could not actually put away sin, Hebrews 9:9. Those sacrifices were but a typical covering before God, enabling Him to be just in forbearing with the sin of His elect until Christ should come and fulfill it completely in his obedience unto death, Romans 3:25. Christ’s death, however, is not properly an atonement (a covering), but a putting away of sin. The reason why we do not find the same word used in the New Testament with reference to Christ’s death is because His death actually put away sin and satisfied law and justice for His people and therefore is a true propitiation (satisfaction)- I John 2:2, and reconciliation, Romans 5:11. You may say, ‘Ah! Romans 5:11 uses the word atonement!” Yes, that is the word the translators used, but in the original the word is ‘reconciliation,’ as used in Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
Second, the notion that Christ secured salvation for His people at the cross does not adequately describe His finished work. Many will argue that He secured salvation, but a security is not necessarily a full payment. No! The Scriptures speak of Christ being MADE A SURETY (a full payment) of a better covenant, through His death, 2 Corinthians 5:21. A surety assumes the entire load, debt, and responsibility. He is not merely a security against God’s wrath, but THE SURE SACRIFICE that forever removed it for His people, Hebrews 10:10. He did not merely make man salvable, but he ‘became’ the Surety in time, having fulfilled what God the Father purposed in eternity, pictured in the Old Testament in type, picture, and promise, and accomplished at the cross. As Surety, the divine and human nature united together in His own person, and in his body unto death brought reconciliation between God and men (sinners), through THE MAN Christ Jesus- 1 Timothy 2:5. As God, He has laid His hand upon chosen sinners in covenant mercy. As the Man, His blood shed before a just and holy God is all the satisfaction necessary for Him to show mercy, love, pardon, and once for all justify those He represents, having completed the work at Calvary, Romans 4:25. May the Lord grant us eyes to behold Him not as a mere security, but as God’s Surety for His chosen, beloved sinners!

CHRIST IS ALL

f one listens to the average message being preached today, (purported by many to be the gospel,) one hears about a ‘savior’ who is trying to save, one who would be ‘lord’ if only men will let him, or one who must wait till men open their hearts; One who is dependent on the creature to carry out his will or bring others to him. This weak kneed “Jesus,” that is “preached” far and wide, is not the GOD of the Bible. He is a figment of men’s imaginations and is an impostor who has no real power.
A man who knows himself to be a sinner, lost and undone, can find no comfort in one who must ask his permission to save him. That man who has been acquainted with his own hopeless condition is longing to hear about ONE who is mighty to save, ONE who has all power in heaven, earth, and hell. ONE in whose hand is the power of life and death, who is able to save to the uttermost. Paul here declares that “CHRIST is ALL”. HE has no rival, nor is there any who can thwart HIS will nor overturn HIS purpose. All things have been put under HIS feet.
Some tell us there is coming a day, even a thousand year period of time when HE will reign in the earth. That message is two thousand years too late. HE came into the world as a KING, HE is the KING now, and HE shall be the KING forever. It was this message that Peter preached on the day of Pentecost saying, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.” (Acts 2:36) There remains nothing to yet come under HIS dominion that is not already under HIS feet.
This is such a clear message throughout the New Testament that it is unthinkable that a person could overlook it or neglect to proclaim it from the housetops. “Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him.” (Heb 2:8) The LORD JESUS, himself, said, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” (Matt 28:18) Even the demons and Satan himself are but pawns in HIS mighty hand. As someone has said “the devil is GOD’s devil”, he is like a dog on a leash that can only fulfill the purpose the LORD has for him until the day he is finally destroyed in the pit of hell.
