CALL TO WORSHIP

 (Tune: # 45- ‘Ye Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim)

Ye saints of the Lord, rejoice in your King;

His mercy record; His faithfulness sing;

His infinite power and wisdom proclaim;

He free grace adore, and sing, “Worthy’s the Lamb!”

Complete and all pure, in Jesus we are;

Our baseness He bore, and makes us all fair;

Nor Gabriel can boast of a robe more divine,

Than on us is cast, and in which we do shine.

Midst worlds in a blaze, and wrath streaming forth,

While millions shall gaze divested of hope,

In dread consternation, distracted with fear

Of just condemnation and utter despair.

True Christians shall stand, without fear or shame,

At Jesus’ right hand, in glory to reign,

The dread conflagration their joy can’t decrease,

Complete’s their salvation, and all is of grace.

Hallelujah, amen! Salvation’s of God!

Repeat it again, and publish abroad

The love of your Savior what theme so complete?

He’ll leave you, no never! His love is too great!

FAITH

F

aith looks neither to works, nor worthiness in self, but considers what Christ is to the soul, and what the soul is in Him- righteous, perfectly and everlastingly righteous.  Then joy, GREAT JOY, springs up.  See the claim of faith is ‘My God,’ Isaiah 61:10.  Faith does not cause the Lord to become our God, nor adopt us into His family, but it claims that peculiar and precious interest in Him, which the word of His grace reveals.  The Father draws us by His Spirit, to His Son as our righteousness.  The Spirit bears witness that we are righteous in His Son.  Then faith makes the claim, boasts of it, and glories in it. Then Jesus has our hearts and our hopes. Our affections are placed on Him, our hopes center in Him.                                                                                                                                                                              W. A FORM OF GODLINESS VERSUS TRUE GODLINESS

“Having a from of godliness, but denying the power thereof; from such turn away,’  2 Timothy 3:5

A

 form of godliness is not godliness.  Paul here pulls the mask off of those who appear to men to be God-fearers and worshippers, but all the while deny (literally ‘having taken a stand against and continuing to speak against) the power of true godliness (god-fearing worship). How so?

It is a form of godliness that emphasizes an outward walk of morality rather than an inward work of grace- v. 5- The emphasis is on an external show of religion, pretending great holiness, zeal, and concern for the salvation of men and the kingdom of God, yet in reality is a denial of one true faith- Election, Grace, Redemption, Justification, and Sanctification in, by, and through the Lord Jesus Christ alone.  See Colossians 2:18-23.

The power (dunamis)-  of true God-fearing (godliness) is the work of the Spirit, regenerating, illumining, leading to Christ alone, through begetting life and granting faith to believe on Christ.  Many profess to believe on Christ, and yet attribute the power of believing to their own will thereby denying (speaking against) the ONLY power of salvation, which is the will of the Father, the finished work of Christ, and the revelation of the Spirit- John 1:11, 12. Seeing Christ in truth and the consequent worship in truth is through the revelation of the Spirit of God, and not a mere intellectual embracing of truth and doctrine.  As to the work of Christ, there are those who deny the power and efficacy of His righteousness imputed at the cross, His sacrifice, and His intercession, Romans 8:10.  They deny the power of the cross and what Christ accomplished there by the imputation of sin to Him, and the charging of the merits of His obedience to His people as the only sufficient and necessary righteousness for acceptance with God.  Like Cain, they endeavor to add to that finished work, and bring the fruit of their own hands- whether their will, decision, faith, or good works, and hope for acceptance by offering it on the altar of worship, as an added righteousness that they falsely presume that God will accept.

From such turn away- We are to have no fellowship with those who promote any other way of righteousness.  We are to depart from their communion, withdraw from them, and come out from among those whose doctrine and manner of worship is contrary to the one true righteousness of God, established by Christ, imputed upon completion of His work of redemption, and accepted of God, as proven by the resurrection of Christ from the dead, 2 Corinthians 6:17; Romans 4:25.                                                                   KEN WIMER

FAITHFUL SAYINGS OF THE BLESSED GOSPEL

H

earken, O children of men.  Give ear, my soul.  Would that all earth’s sons, from East, West, North and South, could be the audience!  Would that all might hear the faithful sayings of the blessed Gospel!  Christ is the first and last, the sum and substance of this noble Word.  Christ, chosen, sent, anointed, accepted of God. Christ, wondrous in person, the Mighty God, therefore infinitely glorious to save. Christ, very man, therefore infinitely qualified to represent fallen sons of Adam.  Christ, loving from everlasting to everlasting, with love knowing no origin, no end, no intermission, no degrees; with love always unchangeably the same-perfect, pure, intense, enduring.

              Christ hanging on the accursed tree, laying down His life an effectual ransom price, and by His blood closing the gates of hell, quenching God’s fiery wrath, paying all demands, satisfying every claim, glorifying every attribute, washing each crimson stain of ALL HIS RANSOMED FLOCK.  Christ, gloriously fulfilling every tittle of the glorious Law, saying to each command, I fully have obeyed; and then transferring the vicarious obedience, as divine righteousness, to His Bride the Christ, her robe for heaven, her luster in the courts above.  Christ, purchasing the Holy Ghost, and sending Him to bless the Church with all His powers to teach, to sanctify, to comfort, to adorn, to beautify.  Christ, rising from  the grave, a proof that God is satisfied, and ALL redemption fully earned, an earnest, that the ransomed in their turn shall put on the beauties of a resurrection body, worthy of a resurrection state.  Christ, ascending to the right hand of the majesty on High, representing all His people in Himself, bearing their names upon His shoulders and His heart, receiving all gifts for them, pouring down all blessings on them.  Christ, coming to institute a glorious reign, to change the living, to raise the dead, to execute eternal judgment, to fill all heaven with glory, to awaken the eternal song of never ending hallelujahs.                                                 HENRY LAW, 1797-1884
