hrist is th’Eternal Rock,
On which His church is built;
The Shepherd of His little flock;
The Lamb that took our guilt.
Our Counselor, our Guide,
Our Brother, and our Friend;
The Bridegroom of His chosen bride,
Who loves her to the end.
He is the Son to free;
The Bishop He to bless;
The full Propitiation be;
The Lord our Righteousness.
Let all obedient souls
Their grateful tribute bring,
Submit to Jesus’ righteousness
And bow before the King.
A HOPE THAT MAKETH NOT ASHAMED
“And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”
Romans 5:5

redestination should be publicly taught and insisted upon, in order to confirm and strengthen true believers in the certainty and confidence of their salvation. For when regenerate persons are told, and are enabled to believe, that the glorification of the elect is so assuredly fixed in God’s eternal purpose that it is impossible for any of them to perish, and when the regenerate are led to consider themselves as actually belonging to this elect body of Christ, what can establish, strengthen and settle their faith like this? Nor is such a faith presumptuous, for every truly converted man may and ought to conclude himself elected, since God the Spirit renews those only who were chosen by God the Father and redeemed by God the Son. This is that ‘hope which maketh not ashamed,’ nor can possibly issue in disappointment if entertained by those into whose hearts the love of God is poured forth by the Holy Ghost given unto them.

SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES
“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me,” John 5:39

ecause there is so much confusion, and so many voices as to the proper interpretation of Scripture, how careful all of us must be to search them out for ourselves. The Greek word for ‘search,’ means a strict, close, diligent, curious investigation, much like men seeking gold, or hunters looking for signs of their game. So many are content with a superficial reading of a verse or chapter here or there, but searching the Scriptures must be a regular part of our diet.
Certainly there is much in the Word of God that can provide solace and consolation by a simple reading. There is milk for babies and meat for the strong, I Peter 2:2. Yet, babies do not remain so, but as they age so grows their need for strong meat! The author of Hebrews states, ‘For every one that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe,’ But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil, Hebrews 5:13,14. All whom God the Father has chosen, and the Lord Jesus Christ redeemed at Calvary, will in time be born again of the Spirit of God and brought to see, hear, taste, and know more fully the goodness of the Lord in having legally adopted them as Sons at the cross, having satisfied law and justice for them in Christ’s obedience unto death. They are not chosen, redeemed, justified, or adopted when they come to see it, but they are brought to see it and know Him as He who saved them by His blood, having already accomplished salvation for them.
Just as when a baby is born, there is life, hunger, and appetite, so any who are born from above will manifest that life of the Spirit because of God’s righteousness established for them by Christ and imputed once-for- all to their account upon completion of His satisfactory death for them, Romans 8:10. That life produced by the Spirit causes them to hunger and thirst after that righteousness, to know more of it, and be in subjection to it as their only righteousness before a holy God, Romans 10:3. It is just that hunger that causes them to search the Scriptures, as the prophets of old- ‘Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified before hand the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should fellow,’ I Peter 1:11.
In searching the Scriptures, one whose eyes are opened will increasingly find Him as the ONE SUBJECT, and find in Him that salvation purposed from eternity, accomplished at Calvary, and now revealed by the Spirit. Christ said, ‘They are they which testify of Me.’

THE WORD OF GOD
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God,” John 1:1.

Hrist, as the Word, was and is God’s way of communication with His people that He came to save. The Word was silent to some, and yet very scolding to others such as the Pharisees and hypocrites. And yet to His own He speaks! What grace to be spoken to by THE WORD!
What did the Word say for all men to hear from Calvary? What was His attitude toward sin laden, burdened down with guilt, hell deserving sinners? Yea, what has your soul heard from God Himself, when His Word has cut out all your foundations from under you and driven you out of all your refuge of lives. All your hoping you are one of God’s elect is gone and you are expecting the worst.
Listen, I hear the Word made flesh saying, ‘Father forgive them for they know not what they do,’ Luke 23:34. It is the word of a complete Savior’s sacrifice well pleasing to the Father, and the blood to satisfy the justice of God having made peace through His death. Can you also not hear the word coming forth from the cross, “It is finished?” All the Word being sharper than any two edged sword rebuking and chastening leads up to this when the Word in the heart comes and does say, ‘Christ died for me.’ Redeemed one, never be lost again because you have been found! Never be condemned again, because His Word says, ‘There is therefore NOW no condemnation,’ Romans 8:1.
