CALL TO WORSHIP
(Tune: “Sun of My Soul” #77)

B |
LEST be the Father and His love,
To whose celestial source we owe
Rivers of endless joy above,
And rills of comfort here below.
Glory to Thee, great Son of God,
From whose dear wounded body rolls
A precious stream of vital blood,
Pardon and life for dying souls.
We give Thee, sacred Spirit, praise,
Who in our hearts of sin and woe
Makes living springs of grace arise,
And into boundless glory flow.
Thus God the Father, God the Son,
And God the Spirit we adore;
That sea of life and love unknown,
Without a bottom or a shore.
A WORD OF THANKS TO GOD

O |
ne cannot undertake a Gospel preaching trip covering so many miles (32,000), in so few days (11), through so many time zones (10.5), dealing with so many cultural and language differences, and not acknowledge that what was accomplished on our recent trip to Africa and India, was blessed of God, and ordered by His sovereign hand alone. Let’s continue to pray for the Gospel seed sown to so many hundreds of preachers and people gathered. We know that His Word does not return unto Him void, and He will cause it to accomplish exactly what He has purposed (Isaiah 55:11), whether a savor of death or life, according to His sovereign will, 2 Corinthians 2:16. Many hundreds sat under the preaching of Christ and Him crucified, (Who He is, What He accomplished, Why He did it, and for Whom He died). Prayerfully wait with us on the Lord to call out His own elect, redeemed ones in His time.
Your prayers, support, and encouragement along the way are much appreciated. Plan to hear a full report Sunday, September 30th during our Family Bible study hour at 10:00 AM.

DAVID’S BLESSEDNESS
|
I |
n Psalm 32:1 David spoke of the temporariness of the blood atonement of the Old Testament sacrifices, in contrast to his hope in the full and final redemption in the completed work of Christ’s death. In his standing under the Old Testament economy, he referred to the blessedness of the one whose “transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” Since the blood of bulls and goats could not take away sin (for only the death of Christ could), in what sense can it be said then that his sins were ‘forgiven’ and ‘covered’? The word ‘forgiven’ means, ‘lifted up.’ It is a beautiful illustration of what God did in ‘forbearing’ with the sin of the Old Testament believers as described in Romans 3:25. They were provisionally ‘lifted,’ much like a penalty may be ‘lifted’ by a judge until a full and final investigation is made into a matter. They were ‘covered’ in God’s forbearance until Christ should come. In the case of the Old Testament believers, the lifting and covering were provisional in view of the full discharge of them to Christ’s account. Where there was a lifting, there had to be a placing of them somewhere. The placing of the sins ‘lifted,’ took place in the imputing of them to the account of our Lord Jesus in His death.
Righteousness cannot be imputed where justice has not yet been fully satisfied. Therefore, the word ‘righteousness’ does not even appear in Psalm 32, because Christ had not yet come to establish it as described in Daniel 9:24. Those of the Old Testament could speak of the blessing of forgiveness, and owning salvation by the grace of the Lord, and yet, it was not until Christ actually came and fulfilled law and justice on their behalf that they could legally and judicially be declared justified before God, and righteousness legally imputed to them. It was given them by promise, but fulfilled by Christ- Galatians 3:18.
The non-imputing of sin fits the other expressions of Scripture with regard to the Old Testament believers, i.e. ‘their sins being covered,’ and ‘God forbearing’ with them until the work of the Lord Jesus was completed. However, Paul, writing after the cross, and the finished work of Christ, could then apply the same blessing of imputed righteousness to David as to himself, Romans 4:6, because by then the work was complete and the justification of all of the elect finished, by the full imputation of sin to Christ, and the simultaneous attributing of His righteousness to the elect at one time, forever. That they without us should NOT be made perfect, Heb. 11:40 KEN WIMER
THE CONFIDENCE I HAVE IN HIM
|
T |
his is the confidence which I have in Him-the very faith which He has given me, that it was His own blessed will from the foundation of the world to do it for me. He chose me, He called me, He redeemed me, He has all power in heaven and earth.
I have had such a blessed experience this morning, how that my name was engraved on His heart when He suffered on the cross. Yes, He knew my name then, and oh! He knew my sins. Oh! How my sins pierced Him. I have been thinking what a sight it must have been; what a woeful sight to see them—those wretches, those monsters, and myself among them, the very worst, the very chief among them; I cannot, I dare not call them by one name worse than I can call myself. I was there! I did it! My sins crucified Him, pierced Him, and agonized Him! But oh! To see them laying hold on that dear spotless Lamb of God—hauling Him, beating Him, mocking Him, buffeting Him, nailing Him to the cross. Oh, what a sight, a woeful sight!
Then again I thought on that wonderful word which He uttered just before He died—and did you ever consider what a wonderful word it was—what it expresses? Ay, what it expresses! ‘It is finished.’ O, what a work His heavenly Father gave Him to do; He undertook it, He carried it through and brought it to an end; and then do you think He can let any poor soul be lost whose name He had written on His heart then? No, He cannot.
