CALL TO WORSHIP

(Tune: #46-‘O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing’)

1- COME let us join our cheerful songs

With angels round the throne;

Ten thousand, thousand are their tongues,

But all their joys are one.

2- “Worthy the Lamb that died,” they cry,

“To be exalted thus.”

“Worthy the Lamb,” our lips reply,

“For He was slain for us.”

3- Jesus is worthy to receive

Honor and power divine;

And blessings more than we can give.

Be, Lord, forever Thine.

4- Let all that dwell above the sky,

And air, and earth, and seas,

Conspire to lift Thy glories high,

And speak Thine endless praise.

5- The whole creation joins in one,

To bless the sacred name

Of Him that sits upon the throne,

And to adore the Lamb.

TRUE ISRAEL

“For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.”

Philippians 3: 3 AV

A FAITHFUL MAN

“A faithful man shall abound with blessings…” Proverbs 28:20

B y definition, a faithful person is one who is steadfast in affection or allegiance, loyal, firm in adherence to promises or in observance of duty.  Proverbs 20:6 ‘Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but A FAITHFUL MAN WHO CAN FIND?’

1.       The Lord Jesus Christ is the FAITHFUL ONE, who abounds with blessing, and from whom ALL blessings flow, Hebrews 2:17. It is by His faithful obedience to God the Father that righteousness and redemption were accomplished, and that He now justly declares ALREADY RIGHTEOUS and FORGIVEN, those that He has saved.  He not only abounds with blessings, but ALL spiritual blessings are given in Him, by Him and through Him ALONE, Ephesians 1:3: electing grace, adoption as sons, acceptance before a Holy God, redemption, forgiveness, the riches of His grace, regeneration, wisdom, justification, sanctification, glorification, faith, joy, hope, love…

2.       Believers are called the FAITHFUL, that is ‘full of faith’- God given faith in Christ.  It may also mean, ‘full of truth,’ God revealed in Christ! Ephesians 1:1; Colossians 1:2.  By the grace of God and the power of the Spirit of God, the believer continually endeavors, determines and strives to live out his/her life in accordance with the TRUTH as it is in Christ.  As one writer put it, “The truth of grace is in him and he knows and believes the grace of God in truth, unmixed and untainted with works.”  He is God taught, and therefore embraces it, values it, and abides in it, John 6:45, John 8:31.

3.       Gospel ministers are FAITHFUL- I Corinthians 4:1-5.  They preach the pure Gospel as it is in Christ, not a system of doctrine, but THE doctrine of Christ, 3 John 9.  They preach it clearly, simply, and plainly, not with an eye to pleasing men, but God.  They do not exalt themselves but the Redeemer and Substitute, and His righteousness established, accepted and imputed in His obedience unto death.  They seek the things of Christ, and his glory alone; and continue to do so in the face of all opposition.

GOD JUSTIFIES THE UNGODLY

True grace is TOTALLY a work of God FOR sinners.  The Bible tells us that God justifies (declares just) the ungodly- “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness,” Romans 4:5. This He did through the life and death of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Substitute for those sinners He came to save.  Clearly then, salvation is entirely the work of God on behalf of such sinners, because no sinner could ever satisfy God’s righteous demands.  Salvation is ALL OF GRACE; apart from any contribution form the ungodly sinner, which the holy demands of God’s law and justice require.      The old hymn asks, “What can wash away my sin?”  The answer?  “Nothing but the blood of Jesus.”  It goes on to state, “This is ALL my righteousness, nothing but the blood of Jesus.”  Observing special days, fasting, and refraining from certain foods and activities hoping for forgiveness of sins is a false hope.  The only hope, a truly good hope, by God’s grace in Christ is conditioned on the Lord Jesus Christ’s finished work accomplished at the cross.                                                                                                                                                                 KEN WIMER

REST IN CHRIST AND HIS FINISHED WORK ALONE

When sinners become convinced by the Spirit in Regeneration that Christ “put away sin”, “abolished death”, and Eternally Justified EVERY sinner He lived and died for, they WILL HEED the Spirit’s exhortation to REST in the work of Christ ALONE.  They will heed the Spirit’s command to stop looking WITHIN for any part of their standing before God, “Let not sin reign, but yield yourselves to God,”   “Let not sin therefore REIGN..”  “Neither YIELD ye your members…”  These are present imperatives (on-going commands).  Do not CONTINUE to let sin keep you trying to work out your own Righteousness before God.  Example:  Rom 10: 1-3.  Hear the Righteousness of God REVEALED in the Gospel.  Submit to it.  And, repent of ever thinking you could make ANY contribution to your standing before God.                                               MARK PANNELL, Albany, GA
