BIBLE LESSON 5
TYPES AND METAPHORES
CHRIST OUR LIFE
Genesis 1:20-31
Introduction:
Try to imagine a world without birds, fish, animals or other living creatures. That means you would not even be here, because you would be included with ‘living creatures’
In the creation story, the first four days deal with God creating matter pertaining to the earth and the universe around it. However, in days five and six, the Lord fills the earth with living creatures. He who is life, makes creatures that live and move and have their being in Him.
Once again we see how created beings bear in some small measure the mark of their Creator. There are lessons to be learned about our Lord even through the creation of birds, fish, and ultimately man himself, who above all other living, breathing, beings, bears the image of his creator.
1.
CHRIST
IS LIFE ITSELF-
The word ‘life’ used throughout our text means-
‘that which has sustenance in it, is active, and moves.
The Lord Jesus Christ not only gives life, but He
is life itself- without beginning and without end, John 5:26. That is why the Bible says, “by Him, all
things consist.” See John 1:3 and
Colossians 1:16,17
Because the Lord Jesus is life, it is His to
give as He wills- whether physical or spiritual- John 17:2,3
While men and creatures have this life in
themselves, it is because God has given it to them for a time, but it is
temporal life
Physical life is compared to a cloud-Job 7:9
Physical life is compared to a weaver’s shuttle-
Job 7:6
Physical life is compared to the wind- Job 7:7
Physical life is compared to a flower that
fades- Job 14:2
2.
CHRIST
IS THE SOURCE OF SPIRITUAL LIFE
Just like living creatures that depend upon him
for their physical movement, so all who are His children by grace depend upon
him for their spiritual sustenance. All
who believe, have been given life by the Spirit of Christ, to come to Him- John
3:16,36. Apart from Christ giving the
life, none would come- John 5:40
There is no true spiritual life apart from
Christ- John 14:6. Just as creatures
cannot live apart from life being given to them, so, sinners cannot live apart
from Christ commanding them to live.
Physical life is temporal. Spiritual life in Christ is eternal and
everlasting- John 6:27.
Just as in physical life, one organism must die,
that another might live, so spiritually, Christ died, that those who believe
might live in Him! John 6:51-53
